What is the source of your works? ⬇️
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.
— John 14:11
The works in Jesus’ life showed one specific thing - that He was in the Father and the Father was in Him. In other words, the very source of everything Jesus said and did came from the Father.
In the same way, Jesus pointed out the reason why the Pharisees did what they did and why they wanted to kill Him… their source was that they were of their father the devil and they were dead inside.
If you look throughout the New Testament, you’ll see that Jesus was always pointing to the source of people’s actions and what was in their hearts more than the works themselves.
We keep his commandments because we love him. We bear fruit because we abide in Him. We speak out of the abundance of what’s in our heart.
So the question is what is your source?
More specifically, what is your source of intimacy and your true hearts desire?
Whatever we become intimate with in our hearts, is what we produce in our lifestyle. Whatever seeds we water in our hearts, is the ones that eventually grow into trees and bear the fruit of that seed.
If we’re not seeing the works of righteousness and holiness in our lives, all we have to do is look at what is our heart really captivated by?
Often times, you’ll find that there are other things that are actually more interesting or important to you other than Jesus that is a source for fulfilling your souls desire. As a result, you become intimate with those things and produce the works that come with it.
When we are captivated by the beauty of Jesus and our heart is desperate for Him, we will begin to live out the life of Christ because we will naturally be yielding to Him in every part of our life and Christ will bear His fruit through us
